Reading my previous thread about coating our redwood deck, you'll notice that I mentioned re-roofing a flat roof that exists below the deck. It never dawned on my to think about coating that flat roof with Versa-Deck. The roof was originally coated with some kind of epoxy/resin based material but applied from the edge using long poles and obviously didn't get the flashing covered very well. This time we're pulling up the deck so applying any material should be a snap. Does anyone (especially Matt or Mike) have any suggestions about this task (OR the redwood decking) before I undertake this? It's the first time I'm dealing with waterproofing a flat surface. By the way, none of this roof is walked on, it's completely covered by the deck.

It's worth it to seal the bottoms of the redwood planks. use 80 - 100 sand paper and apply 2 coats of any of the following - 5205, 5073 or 5325. They will all look & perform well. The 5073 will last the longest.

Now, for the decking use our Versadeck Plus. It's perfect. watch the video on installation in the trsining portion of our website to see an application. When it comes to waterproofing, the name of the game is get the water off the deck. So either pitch the decking itself or use our metal lath & metal lath cement to create a 2% or 1/4" per foot fall. That way rain water rums off well.

Versadeck Plus takes about 1.5 - 2 days to complete. It's not very hard, just follow the insrtall guides and watch the video.

Good Luck!

Testimonials

I just wanted to let you know how happy I am with your products and customer service! I have placed two orders, and completed two jobs using Versatile products now.

I was previously using products from another company and the differences in quality of the job and working with Versatile are like comparing day and night! I am currently in Colorado, but I will be re-locating to New Mexico soon and I look forward to doing more jobs there using your products. I am attaching pictures of the latest job I did. It is truely a pleasure working with such a top notch company!
