First, I'd like to apologize for disappearing after so much participation. We got really busy (a good thing). Patrick, I did follow up with Mr. Corbett and he's trying to ascertain whether or not doing the floor is going to get him his money back when they sell, which they plan to do almost immediately. I have a general question to throw out to all. I have been using the flake gun with my small Porter Cable compressor and have experienced what everyone else has using a compressor with a tank, namely, clogs. So, what I would like to know is who is using a tankless compressor that works great. I'd like to buy one and why take a chance on something I know nothing about when I can check in with my fellow versatile contractors and get something I know will work great. Standing by...

Joe,

When you say "clogs", do you mean a nugget of flake that's jammed the flow out or a clog that goes away when you bang your hand on the side of the hopper?

We are soon to be carrying a small tankless compressor, so you may want to wait on purchasing, as we will be getting a pretty smokin' deal on them... ( These do work much better and work great for shooting knock down overlays too.) The brand I used lasted over 13 years, backwhen I was still installing. I will be bringing in the same units.

Joe,

The main thing that makes the hopper gun clog is putting too many chips in the bowl. The chips tend to 'bridge' like grain in a silo.

I fill the bowl 1/3 to 1/2 full and it works quite well. Only have to shake it a few times in the beginning to clear a clog.

Thanks, Matt (and Patrick). I think the clogs may be due to the "bridging" that Patrick eluded to in his response, though I remember earlier comments in the forum referring to tankless air compressors because the tank type units throw out too much moisture and this was the culprit causing the clogs. I never fill the hopper past half and I constantly shake the hopper while expelling flake and still it stops up. I'll gladly wait to buy your unit when you have them. Do you expect this to be within the next 30 days? I really like using the hopper to so stem wall. It saves lots of time! Keep me posted and thanks for the prompt feedback.

Joe,
I tend to fill my hopper about 3/4th full. Then, I kinda "bounce" it up and down. This seems to reduce the flake clogging. Hope this helps. regards to all

Matthew,

What is the status of the tankless air compressor? I don't see it anywhere on your site.

Thanks,
Tony

Testimonials

I just wanted to let you know how happy I am with your products and customer service! I have placed two orders, and completed two jobs using Versatile products now.

I was previously using products from another company and the differences in quality of the job and working with Versatile are like comparing day and night! I am currently in Colorado, but I will be re-locating to New Mexico soon and I look forward to doing more jobs there using your products. I am attaching pictures of the latest job I did. It is truely a pleasure working with such a top notch company!
