This not an unusual problem. Here are a few suggestions to help prevent it or to repair the problem:

1.) Make sure that the skimmed base coat (grout line color) is extremely clean so that the tape will stick well.
2.) Use Versatile's grout line tape instead of generic masking or filament tape. The adhesive on this tape is formulated to stick to a porous surface. It has the flexibility of masking tape and the strength of filament tape.
3.) Get a 'brayer' to roll over the tape to get it to stick down better. A brayer is a hard rubber roller with a handle which is used by vinyl sheet flooring contractors to stick down the seams in their flooring. You can find them at any Home Depot or Lowes for about $15. Works much better than just walking on the tape to seal it down.

Repairs:

Unless you are lucky, there will probably be some leaks under the tape. I keep some of the leftover base skim coat sealed in plastic and in a cool area. I can usually revive it by adding a little more modifier and using it to paint over the problem areas with a small art brush before applying the sealer.
