Advice on which product to use 1 Year, 11 Months ago Karma: 0
My experience is limited as to sealers... my experience is with milestone and using acrylics to "stain" and create designs and murals under Enviro-epoxy. The job request I have now is in a commercial area using and acrylic emulsion as the base "color" and sealer with mica flakes in the sealer as well as quartz. This is an area that will not be warmer than 65 degree and a elevated humidity... its in a winery... it also will have a fork lift and palette lift drug across it. What would you recommend as a sealer... will it bond or lift acrylic or could I put a metallic tint concentrate in the flake kit primer and go about the bling that way. Thanks for the input!

Best way to go is our 5073 Polyurea clear coat. It's tuff as nails and will hold up very well in that type of project. If you want to do two clear top coats, then use our 5205 clear primer ( which is a bit lower in cost) and then apply the 5073 as the final top coat. The result will be an ultr high gloss floor, that won't stain from oils or wine spills, even if the stain sat for more than a week!

The cold or humidity is not a factor for either above coatings. Both can be applied at 35 degrees. Only thing to keep in mind on the air temp is the colder it is, the slower the top coats will dry.

Good luck and hope this helps out. if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Thanks so much for you input! Do you think that any kind of acrylic base under the primer is o.k.? Would you broadcast the mica flakes like the diamond crystals and quartz into the topcoat or under the primer or topcoat? Thanks again! Also, I've developed annoying sensitivity to some chemicals, I use to do tub refinishing and stuff with car paint- is this product on that scale of fumes? I always wear and organic vapor mask and coveralls but my skin still reacts if it is exposed. Thanks!

If the acrylic base is a sealer then you will need to sand or black pad it to degloss so it will provide tooth for the subsequent coats. If it is a modified cement like a microtopping then you should not have any adhesion problems. You will want to broadcast into a wet basecoat or primer coat and then apply a clear topcoat when you are happy with the finish. Here is a link to our Diamond Flake Install Guide and it will go into more detail.

If you continue to have sensitivity to paints or coatings even after taking precautions then you should consider working with products that do not cause a reaction.

dmaizers,

As Mike Meursing mentioned, the 5073 PolyUrea sealer provides an EXTREMELY tough sealed surface which is highly resistant to abrasion, chemicals and UV.

Whatever surface you put it on, you need to realize that the sealer needs to have something to sink into or to grab onto. An already porous microtopping or porous concrete surface is great.

If you are dealing with an already non-porous surface, you will need to give it some 'tooth' by sanding (I use 80 grit sandpaper) or by using a floor polishing machine with the most abrasive black pad.

5073 is certified by the stringent California Air Resources Board as a low VOA product. Its vapors are not strong and dissipate after about 3 hours.

However, if you are sensitive, do keep wearing a respirator when you apply it. I doubt that you will need a full body suit. 5073 isn't all that bad.
